About 45 Central Highlands’ women drew attention to the scourge of breast cancer by wearing “bras on the outside” at a fundraising event at Bluff, east of Emerald.
And L&F Transfers was there to keep people moving, just as we have been for many local events that bring communities together and support worthwhile causes.
While L&F has become part of a major campaign against cancer through our links with the Australian Lions’ Childhood Cancer Research Fund (ALCCRF), we are also delighted to back groups making a difference on a local scale.
Organiser of the “Bras on the Outside” fundraiser was Dee Power, who told All Aboard Newsletter the “awesome” bras on display at the Girls Night In event had helped raise close to $3500 for Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ).
About 100 prizes were given away for winning “crazy games and dares”, while lucky number giveaways and other fun activities also helped bolster funds raised on the night.
Ms Power was particularly grateful to L&F Transfers for providing the bus that transported women from Blackwater to Bluff and back for the event. She also thanked the Bluff Rugby League Football Club, which offered its premises free of charge for the night’s activities.
This was the third year in which she has hosted the event “together with my regular local helpers Kristie McLaughlin, Heidi and Sam Smith, Alana, Donna and Helen,” she said. The number of participants was similar to that of last year while about 90 had taken part in 2014.
Ms Power said she began fundraising for CCQ in 1989 after having had family and friends affected by cancer and had been involved “on and off” since then.
As a long-standing fundraiser, she capped a fine year in 1991 when she won a car as the highest fundraiser for the Cancer Fund in Queensland in a quest called sales assistant of the year.
